Simley High School’s Isabella McCauley first woman to win Minnesota Golf Champions event

Isabella McCauley of Southview Country Club became the first woman to win the 47th Minnesota Golf Champions tournament on Sunday, going wire to wire at Minneapolis Golf Club to win the 54-hole event.

McCauley, a senior at Simley High School, put together rounds of 66. 71 and 70 for a 54-hole total of 9-under 207 to win the prestigious by two shots over Trey Fessler.

The tournament features the best players in Minnesota, professionals and amateurs. Men played the tournament from 7,026 yards, women from 5,804 yards.

McCauley, a University of Minnesota commit, has had a terrific year on the golf course this summer. She became the youngest Minnesotan to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open, barely missing the cut  at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. The former high school state champion also reached the round of 32 at the U.S Girls Junior Championship this summer.
