Crossing guard struck by car near school in Lafayette dies

LAFAYETTE, Calif. (KRON) – The crossing guard that was hit by a car on Wednesday near a school in Lafayette has died, according to his family.

Around 3 p.m., officials say a car hit the two people on School Street at Paradise Court.

A child suffered minor injuries and the crossing guard was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police. The crossing guard has since passed away.

The family identified the crossing guard as 45-year-old Ashley Dias and says that this was his second day on the job.

As an investigation continues, authorities remain on the scene.

The police department says that Stanley Intermediate School is still accessible.

Police advise residents to avoid the area at this time.
