Gophers drop four-set match to top-ranked Texas

The Gophers volleyball team is starting the season with a gauntlet of ranked opponents and so far are taking their lumps. After losing to ninth-ranked Baylor in their opener, the Gophers lost to top-ranked Texas in four sets on Wednesday at Maturi Pavilion.

Stephanie Sameday led all players with 21 kills, and CC McGraw had 24 digs, but the Longhorns won the match 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22 to improve to 3-0. The Gophers fell to 1-2 and are scheduled to play No. 5 Florida on Sunday in Gainsville, Fla., before traveling to Eugene, Ore., to play No. 21 Stanford and No. 14 Oregon.

Melanie Parra had a match-high four aces and Nalani Ilosia had 24 digs for the Longhorns, who outblocked the Gophers 16-10. Sameday added 19 digs for the Gophers.
