With Freedom Day planned for July 19, all we’re really waiting for is the weather.
But, with heavy rain across May and cold spells, it’s not exactly been the best start to the summer.
Why has this summer had bad weather and is it forecast to change?
Here is all you need to know.
Why has it been so cold this summer?
Even though it might’ve felt cold, this summer actually has seen warmer than average temperatures.
The Met Office explained to Metro.co.uk: ‘May was a cool and wet month across the UK thanks to the jet stream being located further south than usual. This meant we saw more low pressure systems and therefore more rain.
‘Since then large swathes of the UK have actually been warmer and drier than average thanks to higher pressure sitting close by as the jet stream has been weaker.
‘However, in the south we’ve continued to see low pressure and rain coming up from the near continent so here it has been a bit disappointing if you like sunny skies.’
Directing audiences to their regularly updated YouTube channel, the Met Office’s 10 Day Trend also gives us an idea of what to expect in the coming weeks.
The current 10 Day Trend explains that there are signs of warmer drier weather for the south of the UK in the forecast.
Rain is expected in the northwest later next week.
