Boys state tennis: Mounds View’s Bjorn Swenson two wins from completing title defense

Mounds View junior Bjorn Swenson is two wins away from defending his state title.

Swenson, who won the individual state crown as a freshman in 2019, cruised to a pair of victories Thursday at Prior Lake, earning himself a spot in Friday morning’s semifinals.

Two more wins Friday and Swenson will earn a second straight state title after the 2020 season wasn’t competed due to COVID-19.

In doubles, the Mounds View duo of Emmanuel Alex and Christo Alex advanced to the semifinals, where they’ll face Duluth East duo Ty Kruger and Dane Patton. On the other side of the bracket, Mahtomedi’s Brandon and Dylan Pham will square off against the Edina pairing of Otto Schreiner and Luke Westholder.

Mounds Park Academy’s Evan Fraser reached the semifinals of the Class A individual bracket. He’ll face Breck’s Clayton Haberman on Friday.

St. Paul Academy doubles team Liam Lynch and Luka Shaker-Check reached the semifinals, where they’ll play the Thief River Falls tandem Dylan Hahn and Jack Onkka.
