High school roundup: Combined no-hitter sends Rosemount to section softball semifinals

SOFTBALL

Rosemount 10, Apple Valley 0: Rosemount’s Jessa Snippes and Maizie Anderson combined to throw a no-hitter as the Irish dispatched Apple Valley in five innings to advance to the Class 4A, Section 3 semifinals. Snippes, who threw four innings and was credited with the win, also powered the Rosemount (18-1) lineup. She went 3 for 4 with three RBIs on a home run and a triple. She was a single away from the cycle.

Concordia Academy 6, St. Croix Prep 5: With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Emily Bonk hit a walk-off three-run home run to lift Concordia Academy to a victory over St. Croix Prep in the Class 2A, Section 4 quarterfinals. The home run was Bonk’s only hit of the day. St. Croix Prep pitcher Annik Burquest took the loss. St. Croix Prep (10-7) extended its lead to as many as four after the top of the fifth inning, but Concordia (14-5) added a run in the bottom of the fifth, setting up the three-run shot to be the game-winner in the seventh.

Eagan 6, Eastview 4: Eagan beat its crosstown rival Eastview in the Class 4A, Section 3 quarterfinals behind a strong performance from starter Nicole Cassellius. Cassellius pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out five. Eastview’s (12-9) three runs in the bottom of the third, which briefly tied the game at three, were all unearned. Eagan (8-13) then added two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth to. Cassellius finished 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

BASEBALL

Stillwater 10, White Bear Lake 0: Stillwater, the No. 2-ranked team in the state, began its trek to the state tournament with a victory over White Bear Lake (4-17) in the Class 4A, Section 4 quarterfinals. Gavin Zurn started for the Ponies (17-4) and was credited with the win, throwing four scoreless innings allowing just three hits while striking out four. Bryaden Hellum and Gavin Madison, batting No. 1 and 2 in the lineup, combined for each went 1-2 with two RBIs and a walk.

Lakeville South 10, Northfield 0: Behind a three-hit complete game shutout from Justin Loer, Lakeville South cruised to a Class 4A, Section 1 quarterfinal victory overt Northfield (14-7). Loer struck out 10 and walked just one batte. Hayden Mileski and Ryan Baumgartner each tallied three RBIs for Lakeville South (11-11). Mileski finished 3-4, including a home run.
