One motorist was killed and two others critically injured Friday afternoon in a head-on crash on Interstate 35 near Hinckley, Minn.
The deceased victim was a 45-year-old man from Garfield, Minn., but his identity was being withheld until Saturday, a Minnesota State Patrol crash report said.
The man was driving north on I-35 in a Kia Sportage when a southbound vehicle drifted through the median and crossed into the northbound lanes one mile south of Hinckley, in Pine County.
Two people in the other vehicle remained in life-threatening condition.
Tabitha Sue Sigler, 21, of Cambridge, Minn., was driving, and Santino Hilario Chavez, 36, of St. Paul, was a passenger in the Mitsubishi Endeavor that crossed the median. They were transported to separate hospitals in the Twin Cities.
The crash was reported at 4 p.m. and caused lengthy delays on I-35 during what was already a busy day for traffic, given the state fishing opener Saturday.
