Boys hockey: Janne Kivihalme resigns as Lakeville South coach

Janne Kivihalme announced Thursday that he had resigned as Lakeville South boys hockey coach.

”I want to thank all the players for your dedication and hard work and all the parents for your commitment to the program, Kivihalme tweeted. “3 years/3section titles/2 conference championships/section academic champs!#ProudCoach.”

Kivihalme led the Cougars to the Class 2A state title game this winter. Eden Prairie defeated the Cougars 2-1 in overtime.

Lakeville South players tweeted out their gratitude to their head coach.

“One of the best coaches I’ve had hands down,” forward Tanner Ludtke tweeted. “Showed up to the rink every day and dedicated so much time and energy to all of his athletes. Will not be the same without you. Thank you for 2 great years!”

“You taught me so much these past 3 years,” forward Cade Ahrenholz tweeted. “You changed the culture of Lakeville South hockey for good. You were a mentor, teacher, and leader for all the kids you coached. Thank you for everything. #S4L”
