Gophers men’s basketball brings home transfer forward Jamison Battle

Ben Johnson has received his first roster addition as Gophers men’s basketball coach.

Jamison Battle, a DeLaSalle High School graduate who entered the transfer portal on March 8 after two years at George Washington, announced he is coming back to Minnesota on Monday.

“Homecoming,” Battle tweeted.

For Johnson, who was hired one week ago, this is the first new piece of the U roster for the 2021-22 season, and it starts to offset the six known departures since the middle of the final season under Richard Pitino.

Battle, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward, averaged 17.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 15 games in the Atlantic 10 Conference last season. He shot 47 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.

As a freshman in 2019-20, the Robbinsdale, Minn., native  averaged 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 32 games.
