Women’s hockey: Whitecaps advance to Isobel Cup final

At long last, the Minnesota Whitecaps will get a chance to defend their Isobel Cup title.

They secured that opportunity with a dominant 7-0 win over the Connecticut Whale on Friday night at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, Mass.

This is a long time coming for the Whitecaps after the Isobel Cup playoffs got cancelled due to COVID last year.

It was a convincing performance from the Whitecaps as they got scoring from up and down the lineup.

That said, the stars of the night were goaltender Amanda Leveille, who pitched a shutout on the biggest stage, and Audra Richards, who netted a hat trick.

It’s fitting the Whitecaps reached the Isobel Cup final considering the Boston Pride also punched their ticket on Friday night.

That will set up a highly anticipated rematch of the Isobel Cup final that was cancelled a year ago.
