Men trapped in burning car after rollover crash in Minneapolis expected to survive

Two men are expected to survive their injuries after the car they were in rolled over and burst into flames, trapping them inside, Sunday afternoon in North Minneapolis, police said.

The 2:42 p.m. rollover crash took place near 49th and Bryant avenues north. When officers arrived, they found the car on fire with two men trapped inside. Fire fighters put out the fire and rescued the two men, who were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in serious and critical condition. Both are expected to survive.

Police said the crash caused some road closures and Metro Transit temporarily rerouted some buses, police said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation but early information indicates that excessive speed might have been a contributing factor.
