St. Paul police seeking motorist after pedestrian fatally struck on East Side

St. Paul police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that left a pedestrian dead on the East Side on Thursday evening.

According to police spokesman Mike Ernster, officers were called to East Seventh Street at Eichenwald Street around 6 p.m.

A woman, who was in her 60s, had been struck. The vehicle that hit her had fled the scene, heading east on Seventh Street.

The victim was pronounced dead after she was taken to Regions Hospital, Ernster said.

Investigators are working to determine the type of vehicle involved and a description of the driver, he said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 651-291-1111.

The death was the second fatal pedestrian hit-and-run incident on the East Side in a week. Last Friday, a 68-year-old man was killed at McKnight Road and Margaret Street. A 57-year-old Maplewood man was later arrested and charged Thursday with criminal vehicular homicide.
